FCS Goes Live With Fox 46’s Good Day Charlotte

On August 12, Mecklenburg Cooperative Extension welcomed Fox 46’s, Charity Bailey for a live airing of Good Day Charlotte. FOX 46 Charlotte (WJZY) is a FOX Affiliate. Good Day Charlotte provides Fox 46 viewers with morning news and exposure to Charlotte’s most exciting happenings. The August 12th segment focused on home food preservation techniques. Kristin Davis, Extension Agent, shared tips for dehydrating fruits and vegetables which included a demonstration of how to make cucumber chips. Viewers learned how to turn garden cucumbers into a healthy potato chip alternative using a dehydrator.

charityLater segments included tips for canning safely, with a demonstration on creating bread and butter pickles. Viewers learned key practices to reduce foodborne illness, particularly botulism. Davis explained the difference between waterbath and pressure canning in the final segment, which also included an invitation to remaining Sustainable Living Series classes.

Good Day Charlotte will return in a few weeks to broadcast best practices for developing a Fall garden, with Mecklenburg Extension’s new horticulture agent, Steven Capobianco.
