Daija Chante SamsThis week’s True Leader in 4-H is Daija Sams, 19-year-old 4-H alumni. Since she became involved in 4-H, she has held many positions at the county, district, and state levels. Some of these include the position of Summer Fun Counselor in Training, 4-H Honor Club member, N.C. 4-H Citizenship Focus participant, 2019 dancer for Dancin’ in the Clover, and many other roles in her 4-H career. She attends Martin Community College and in her free time enjoys photography, horseback riding, and making videos. Read below to learn more about Daija and the impact 4-H has made on her life.

What is your favorite component of the 4-H Program? My favorite component of the 4-H program is the number of opportunities it gives. I enjoy this as it has given me many opportunities to do things I never thought I would. I have gotten to be a district officer, teen council officer, and have gotten the opportunity to run for state office all because of 4-H.

What does 4-H mean to you? 4-H means literally everything to me. It has given me many opportunities and the friends that I have today. Without 4-H, I wouldn’t have the best friends that I have now.

What is your most memorable 4-H moment? My most memorable 4-H moment is when my district officer team and I walked the Congress stage for the last time together. It was a sad yet happy moment for me as that was the final chapter in my district officer story. Being a district officer truly gave me a lot of leadership experience and fond memories.

What makes you a True Leader in 4-H? The things that I feel make me a true leader in 4-H is my experience. Having experience and sharing it with others will only help to train and build the new leaders of 4-H. I feel that having experience and being willing to share that with others will help to grow the club, community, country, and world.

If you were an animal, what would you be and why? I would be a Panda because I took a Buzzfeed quiz and it told me to. Which also confirmed what I was going to say as I love to lounge around and eat snacks. :)Daija and Michael Dancing
