Orange County 4-H members are invited to compete in 4-H Presentations this year! Please review the information below and contact 4-H Agent Jonathon Smith at 919-245-2057 or jonathon_smith@ncsu.edu if you have any questions.

Who? Orange County 4-H members ages 5-18 as of January 1, 2020.

What? Prepare and deliver a 5-12 minute presentation (some categories have slight time differences) in one of 28 topic areas. Your presentation can be a demonstration, an informative speech, or a persuasive speech. Visuals are critical for all presentations except for the Public Speaking category. Visuals might include objects associated with the topic, slide presentations, posters, pictures, equipment, etc. Watch this video from Currituck County!

When? County Activity Day will take place on Monday, June 1, 2020. Exact times will be determined by the number of participants.

Boy presentingWhere? Students will deliver their presentations online on Zoom using a laptop, desktop, tablet, or smartphone. If their internet connectivity is not available or is not strong enough to support Zoom, students may choose to submit a pre-recorded video in advance of June 1.

Why? 4-H Presentations is a contest that will help you grow as a communicator. Students learn how to develop an effective speech, how to teach others about a topic they love, and how to receive feedback from others.

See pages 4-13 of the 4-H Awards Handbook for a full listing of rules and topic categories. Due to online limitations, cookery categories are not being held as part of traditional 4-H Presentations this year.

County Activity Day winners will receive a certificate and a ribbon. Finalists in each age and topic category will be invited to compete at the district level in late June. More information will be provided to winners after County Activity Day.

Register online by May 25.
