Richmond County 4-H Summer Fun

It’s time for Richmond County 4-H Summer Fun registration! All activities will be held at the N.C. Cooperative Extension Richmond County Center, located at 123 Caroline Street in Rockingham, unless otherwise noted. Important to note: deadlines, space is limited and all payments are non-refundable unless the class is canceled. You are not registered until all 3 steps are completed. If you have any questions, please call 4-H at 910-997-8255 or Catherine Shelley, 4-H Agent, at 910-417-0258.

Registration is as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Enroll in 4-H Online.
  2. Within 4-h online, under the vents tab, choose the specific even you are registering for. Once approved you will receive an email from 4-H Online.
  3. Mail total payment to Richmond County 4-H at 123 Caroline Street in Rockinham by the deadline if noted and please add a note with events and participants name(s).

June

NC 40H Citizenship Focus

June 14 – 16, Ages: 14 – 18, Cost: $225 plus spending money

Spend 3 days in Raleigh learning about youth voice and citizenship in action. Highlights include citizenship workshops, panel discussions, speakers, visiting elected officials, and other Raleigh sites. The registration deadline is May 13 ( but space is limited).

4-H District Activity Day (prerequisite County Activity Day)

June 18, Registration Deadline: May 27

1st and 2nd place 4-H presenters on the county level have an opportunity to compete and earn a spot at state presentations. You must participate in County Activity Day to advance to the district level. More details will be provided upon registration.

4-H Summer Camp (week-long, overnight camp)

June 19 – 24, Ages: 8 – 14, Cost: $450

Richmond County 4-H will be camping at Millstone 4-H Camp in Ellerbe, NC. Youth must be aged 8-14 and live in Richmond County. This week-long camp will consist of swimming, kayaking, ropes course, archery, games, arts/crafts and more! Space is limited!

BBQ Bootcamp

June 27, 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Ages: 10 – 18, Cost: $15

Learn food and grill safety, how to prepare various meats, operate various types of grills, and enjoy what is prepared. The location is at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Hamlet. Registration deadline, June 17.

Let’s Take a Hike!

June 28, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Cost $10

Enjoy nature at Morrow Mountain State Park, with a 5-mile hike and picnic lunch. Hikers should be capable of strenuous activity, be capable of carrying 10 pounds of gear, and have appropriate shoes. Bring your lunch and water bottle, bug spray and sunscreen. The registration deadline is June 17.

Cloverbud Fun Day

June 30, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Ages: 5 – 8, Cost $15

Time will be spent in the extension kitchen and outside. The day will be filled with appropriate games, interesting lessons and lots of fun. Please bring your lunch and a water bottle.

July

Cloverbud Camp (overnight)

July 6 – 8, Ages 5 – 8, cost: $15

Our youngest 4-H’ers will experience overnight camp, 3 days/2 nights, at Millstone 4-H Camp in Ellerbe. Campers get to experience age-appropriate activities, ropes course, fishing, kayaking, swimming, archery, and more while enjoying nature.

4-H Congress

July 16 – 19, Ages: 13 – 18, cost $300

Teens spend 4 days and nights on campus at NC State with educational programs, leadership activities, community service projects, state contests, recognition for project, activity and scholarship winners. The registration deadline: June 24 at Noon.

Fur, Fish, & Game Camp (Overnight)

July 17 – 22, Ages 11 – 16, Cost: $625

Enjoy a week outdoors at 4-H Millstone Camp while learning hunting safety, wildlife, hunting and fishing!

Christmas in July

July 25, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Cost: $15

Activities include backing and decorating cookies, making ornaments, and crafts! Let’s spread the Christmas cheer all year long. Please bring your lunch.

Egg-cited to be in the Kitchen

July 27, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Ages: 8 – 18, Cost: $15

We are egg-cited about being in the kitchen with all egg recipes! Participants can eat what is prepared; however, they are encouraged to also bring lunch. The registration deadline is July 21.

August

Canoe/Kayak

August 9, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Cost: $20

Travel to Lumber River State Park and learn water safety, canoe/kayak skills by certified instructors. The guides will lead us on a 2 mile river trip. Participants should be experienced kayakers, comfortable in river water and confident swimmers. Please bring your own lunch, towel, bug spray, sunscreen, and wear clothing that could possibly get wet.

It’s Electric!

August 10 – 11, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Ages: 7 – 12, Cost $20

Learn about circuits, how to solder, and use a 3-d printer!

SEW MUCH FUN

August 15 – 17, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Ages: 7 – 12, Cost: $30

Join us as we have SEW much fun learning how to use a sewing machine while creating cool items to take home. A snack will be provided.

National Fajita Day

August 18, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Cost $15

Join us on August 18 as we prepare, recognize and enjoy the sizzling deliciousness of fajitas!

Raven Rock State Park

August 22, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Cost $10

A park ranger will teach us about the park, tree identification, and the unique ecosystem of the Cape Fear River and Raven Rock State Park. We will hike about 5 miles, hikers should be capable of strenuous activity, capable of carrying 10 pounds of gear, and have appropriate shoes. Bring your own lunch, water, bug spray and sunscreen.
