Description: Med Instead of Meds, exclusively offered by NC Cooperative Extension, is a six-session class series focused on eating a healthy Mediterranean-style eating pattern (a.k.a. eating the Med Way). Classes focus on the 7 Simple Steps to eating the Med Way. Each session explores 1–2 simple steps, a mindfulness skill, and features Med Way recipes. Food demonstration, tasting and/or cooking instruction is included in each session.

Registration Fee: $45 (open until Oct. 8, 2018)

Description: Propagating plants from seeds, cuttings, or divisions is a gratifying gardening experience plus it saves money! In this workshop, Steven Capobianco, NCSU Horticulture Agent, discusses the principles of seed sowing — timing, germination requirements, and growing media — and review the fundamentals of propagation like cuttings and layering. Participants get hands-on experience sowing seeds and practicing herbaceous and hardwood cuttings which they then take home to their gardens! Plus, a bonus after-class Q&A to answer personal gardening questions and unique concerns.

Join other K-8 classroom and nonformal educators as we explore activities in the Project Learning Tree K-8 Curriculum Guide. Every participant will leave the workshop with the PLT K-8 Activity Guide which includes 96 activities correlated to the NC Standard Course of Study and Essential Standards. The PLT activity guides are provided free of charge to participants through support from the NC Forestry Association. CEU renewal credits are available. This workshop qualifies for Criteria I or II in the EE Certification Program (K-8).

STEM Connections? Differentiated instruction? Literature links? The PLT activity guide covers it all!!! The PreK-8 guide is correlated to the Common Core (math and ELA) as well as to the NC Essential Standards (science and social studies). Participants will learn about the materials through direct engagement in the PLT activities throughout the workshop. More details will be sent prior to the workshop. Please bring a lunch and prepare to be outside.
