Randy Suggs
In memory of his wife, Crystal Roeder
(1962-2023)
Crystal “Crys” Roeder is remembered by her husband, Randy, as a kind, compassionate and talented individual. Born and raised in North Carolina, she graduated from Appalachian State University and embarked on a career in advertising, eventually rising to the position of art director. After nearly a decade in the field, Crys joined the faculty of Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) as an instructor in the Graphic Design program. In this role, she thrived as an inspirational motivator to her students.
Following her retirement from CVCC, Crys became a certified Pilates instructor and opened a successful Pilates studio. After this venture, she tapped into her creative spirit and began studying herbalism, becoming a certified herbalist which led her to create soaps, teas, and tinctures that were sold in several stores.
Crys’ lifelong love of gardening, and artistry, came together after designing and building a home on several acres of land. She immediately began planting and raising flowers, vegetables, and fruit as well as creating water features by hand. Her love of plants and thirst for knowledge led her to receive the honor of becoming an Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteer of Mecklenburg County, where she donated countless hours of her time to the program.
Crys’ volunteerism and selfless nature continued in her love of the arts as she served on the Huntersville Public Art Commission and the Mecklenburg County Arts and Science Council’s North/West Advisory Council, representing Huntersville, North Carolina.
Additionally, Crys had a passion for traveling and visited many countries, including France, Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Italy, and Scotland, as well as traveling all over the United States.
With this fund, her husband, Randy, hopes to honor her memory and passion for gardening by supporting the Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteer program of Mecklenburg County.
