Date: Thursday, December 4th, 2025
Time: 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Polling Location: N.C. Cooperative Extension, Mecklenburg County Center | 2415 Lester St, Charlotte, N.C.
Eligibility: Any North Carolina farmer who is a grower of small grain (wheat, oats, rye, barley, grain sorghum, and canola/rapeseed). A farmer/grower must sign an affidavit sheet claiming age, ownership, and residency.
Age: Any farmer/grower over the age of 18 on December 4th, 2025.
Ballot Specifics: “Yes” indicates a vote in favor of continuing the state assessment program on small grain. “No” indicates a vote against continuing the state assessment on small grain.
Ownership Challenges: A farmer/grower’s age, residency, and ownership status can be challenged.
Why Vote?
- Mission – “Providing Positive Change for Small Grain Growers” since July 1986.
- Revenues collected are spent for Research, Education, Promotion and Marketing for the Small Grain Industry.
- Support for FFA, 4-H, Wheat Yield Contest (National and State), National Wheat Growers Associations, NC Seedsmen’s Association, NC Commodity
Conference, Blacklands Farm Managers Tour, UMO Ag Fest - Programs include promotion through Extension/ School Systems teaching young people importance of Agriculture and where their food is produced.
Demonstrations at Farm Shows and Community Ag Awareness Programs stress importance of the farmers in providing food and fiber for our nation/world. - Field days are held in three areas of the state for demonstrating our research applicable to those different areas as well as up to ten whistle stop field days statewide.
- We have 20 districts (based on acreage) in the state represented on our Board of Directors and 4 Agribusiness persons which serve on our board.
Copies of our financial statement are distributed each year at our annual meeting during the NC Commodity Conference and are available at our office located in Raleigh. - Rate of Assessment is .005 of total money farmer receives on wheat, oats, barley, rape seed/canola, rye, and grain sorghum.
- Support for student scholarships through two scholarship programs, the NC Small Grain Growers Scholarship which supports 10 students at $2,500 each to go to the college or university of their choice and the Dan Weathington Endowment Scholarship for NC State University, all scholarships are agricultural specific.
