Education Opportunities
School Gardens
Extension Master Gardeners℠ educate and support a school’s students, teachers, and parents with research-based, environmentally sound horticultural information and guidance to successfully grow and enjoy the benefits of healthy fruits, vegetables, plants and herbs.
Demo gardens
The Freedom Park Demonstration Garden was first established in 2006 and has been a key educational garden for the public. Join us as we work in the garden on the first and third Thursdays of the month. Please bring your favorite gardening tools. Click here for a great overview of our garden.
Community gardens
Extension Master Gardeners℠ provide support to community groups with research-based, environmentally sound horticultural information and guidance to successfully grow and enjoy the benefits of healthy fruits, vegetables, plants and herbs. Community groups can include churches, non-profits, neighborhood groups, and others who have the space and participants to create and maintain a community garden.
Festival Event Booths
The Event Booth responds to requests from the public for EMG attendance at special events and festivals.
Garden Center Booths
In partnership with Lowe’s, EMG volunteers will staff booths at Mecklenburg County libraries throughout the year. In addition, we volunteer at a 4-weekend spring blitz at select Lowe’s garden centers to help gardeners have a successful growing season. Check the calendar for dates and locations.
