North Carolina Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers

Since 1979, North Carolina Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers (EMGVs) have been leaders in this internationally acclaimed program, guiding homeowners in making environmentally sound decisions in their landscapes. Trained by North Carolina State University faculty and staff, EMGVs provide research-based information about gardening and environmental stewardship to individuals and communities across the state. EMGVs engage the community through education and outreach on a wide variety of subjects and through a broad spectrum of projects, all designed to maximize their impact.


Plant Toolbox

The North Carolina Extension Gardener Plant Toolbox contains detailed descriptions and photographs of 4,657 plants that grow in and around North Carolina.

Publications

Several publications with how-to information that can help with your gardening needs. Several of these are Know to Grow guides produced by a team of Extension Master Gardener Volunteers in Mecklenburg County.

Garden Zone

Garden Zone is the monthly external newsletter produced by the EMG program in Mecklenburg County. It’s emailed to subscribers the first business day of the month, providing timely garden advice. Information in the newsletter is based on fact-based gardening research. The newsletter also provides information about Master Gardener services.

Demonstration Garden

Explore N.C. Cooperative Extension Demonstration Gardens. They have signage identifying plants that were selected to thrive in the region. Many feature gardens with specific themes, including pollinator gardens, shade gardens, vegetable gardens, composting stations, and more. Some offer tours and workshops in the garden.
