And it's hard to resist leaving the farmers market without bagfuls of fresh fruits and vegetables. Pickling is a great way to make use of summertime staples and extend their stay in the kitchen. "If I were working with someone who wanted to get into canning, I would recommend pickling," says Kristin Davis, an extension agent with Mecklenburg County Cooperative Extension. New Strawberry
Diagnostic Tool

An interdisciplinary team of  NC State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences extension specialists have created a new, mobile-friendly, database driven tool to help strawberry growers visually diagnose disorders. The new Strawberry Diagnostic Key provides a way to filter by visual characteristics to identify problems. Results include details about the disorders and possible management strategies. The Strawberry Diagnostic Key was developed with funding in part from the Strawberry Sustainability Initiativethe Walmart FoundationUniversity of ArkansasSouthern Region IPM CenterNorth Carolina State University Cooperative Extension Service and the North Carolina Strawberry Association.

Mecklenburg County Cooperative Extension is a part of the County's Park and Recreation Department. All CES services are located at 1418 Armory Drive, Charlotte, NC 28204.
